Awards, Nominations Process, and Criteria

NCLC announces the inaugural Campus Legacy Awards, honoring current and former student body presidents, initiatives, and allies who have made significant contributions to advancing student leadership in the past year. The awards and the selection process for each are detailed below. 

Nominations are not complete until the nominator submits the online nomination form, which includes uploading a 300-400 word narrative explaining the merits of the nomination. The narrative prompts are outlined below. Narrative files must be .doc or .pdf, and the file name should follow the following format: [Award Category] - LastName FirstName (i.e., Rising Star - Smith Jane)

AWARDS

 

Presidential Legacy Award

Description: The Presidential Legacy Award honors a former student body president who has made a significant impact on their industry. Their remarkable career and commitment to student leadership exemplify the impact that former student leaders have on society.

Eligibility: Awarded to a former student body president who completed their term more than ten years ago. 

Narrative: In 300-400 words, describe the nominee’s career accomplishments, impact on their industry, and why they should be given this award. Upload in the nominating form.

Process: Selected by Campus Legacy Award host committee, NCLC staff, and board of directors

Rising Star Award

Eligibility: Awarded to a former student body president who completed their term as student body president in the past ten years.

Description: The Rising Star Award honors a recently former student body president who demonstrates a promising future in civic leadership and commitment to championing student leadership. 

Narrative: In 300-400 words, describe the nominee’s early accomplishments, career trajectory, and why they should be given this award. Upload in the nominating form.

Process: Selected by Campus Legacy Award host committee, NCLC staff, and board of directors

Student Body President of the Year Award

Description: The SBP of the Year Award recognizes an outgoing student body president who has made a resounding impact on his or her campus, exemplifying numerous tenets of strong leadership, and demonstrates the power of student leadership.

Eligibility: Awarded to an outgoing student body president whose term ends in 2017.

Narrative: Describe the nominee’s accomplishments in office and why they should be given this award in 300-400 words.

Process: Four finalists will be chosen through an online voting process, and the awardee will be selected by the NCLC Board of Directors and Campus Legacy Host Committee.

STUDENT INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR

Description: The Student Initiative of the Year Award recognizes a student-led initiative that has exemplified student leadership on a national scale, and awarded to a student leader, organization, or SGA that made significant contributions to that initiative.

Eligibility: Awardee must be a current or outgoing student leader or represent a student organization. 

Narrative: In 300-400 words, describe the initiative, its impact, and the merits of the student leader or organization who should receive the award in office.

Process: Selected by Campus Legacy Award host committee, NCLC staff, and board of directors

Campus Partner of the Year Award

Description: The Campus Partner of the Year Award honors a higher education stakeholder who has significantly empowered student body presidents and advanced student leadership in the past year

Eligibility: Any entity or individual who is not a student leader or student organization.

Narrative: In 300-400 words, describe the organization and its impact on student leadership.

Process: Selected by NCLC staff and Board of Directors
